Harley Schlanger is a prominent figure associated with the Schiller Institute, a political and economic think tank founded in 1984. He is known for his updates and newsletters related to the institute’s activities and its connection to the LaRouche movement.
In my opinion, empires become all the more perfidious as they decline. As a functioning empire, providing employment, the British empire built infrastructure, canals, roads, railways, schools and hospitals while it did its looting. But with decline and withdrawal, in every case, a terrible mess was left behind – the partition of India for instance, or how we retreated from the mandate in Palestine – leaving in a manner which suited Albion, not the indigenous population. I think Gibbon makes the same point about the Roman empire.
